I'm Alison Segal and I want to thank you for visiting Declutter & Destress. Of all people, I know your time is extremely valuable.
As a licensed psychologist I have extensive experience in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and the treatment of anxiety disorders. My formal education includes a B.A. in Child Study (Tufts University) and a Ph.D. in Clinical Health Psychology (Yeshiva University). Informally, I practice being an organized wife and mom and try my best to run a low-clutter household. Currently, I'm a consulting psychologist to the Institute for Behavior Therapy in NYC and I see patients in my private practice, Healthy Behaviors of Westchester, in White Plains, New York.
I've been in the practice of psychology for over 10 years treating children, adults, couples, and families. In this time I have developed an expertise in treating both Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and chronic disorganization. One sub-category of OCD is hoarding. Hoarding is the inability to get rid of excessive amounts of physical clutter. Another sub-category of OCD is compulsive shopping. This is an inability to control one's impulse to buy things that he/she does not want, need, or have a use for. Both hoarding and compulsive shopping are unhealthy behaviors that impact people's mood, work, and relationships.
My passion for decluttering and organizing combined with my knowledge of cognitive behavior therapy and anxiety lead me to create Declutter & Destress. However, Declutter & Destress is NOT just for those people who fall into the category of "hoarding" or "extreme clutter". Although I have expertise in working with these special cases, my services are designed to help the "everyday person" who needs that extra set of hands, help making decisions, and organizational expertise. Whether you have a diagnosable "disorder" or just a propensity to always be in a state of "disorder", I can help you behave healthier and feel happier.
